In Mexico‘s most „Americanized“ metropolis, there‘s little sign of the traditional Reyes Magos, or Three Kings, that hand out toys to children in Mexico in early January. The three robed figures that are a Mexican tradition seem to have been replaced in Monterrey by Santa Claus, reindeer, and other American holiday items. PHOTO – ČTK/AP
LONDON - Peace and goodwill to all men, mince pies, wine and Christmas cheer — unless you happen to play soccer for West Bromwich Albion. Christmas had been officially canceled at the Midlands premier league team and manager Gary Megson was the man happy to cast himself as Scrooge. „The lads weren‘t going out,“ Megson told the club‘s Web site after ruling out a Christmas party. „Our Christmas comes in the summer when we get a lot of time off. I think it‘s old hat for players to be roaming around pubs and clubs worse for wear. And I certainly don‘t think it is the ideal preparation before a run of four games,“ said Megson whose side are struggling near the foot of the table with four wins from 17 games.
But it is not all darkness and misery at the club — they made a party for the players‘ children as well as a visit to a local hospital where they handed out gifts to youngsters.
