HELSINKI - An elk was shot dead in a house in northern Finland last week after it crashed through the kitchen window of an elderly couple eating breakfast, the daily Ilta-Sanomat reported. It was not known what caused the young cow elk to leap at the window of the house in the small northwestern town of Muhos. „It all happened so terribly fast that I didn‘t have time to think. I only had time to say ‘that elk is coming in,‘ raise my hands and say ‘don‘t come here, elk,‘“ 73-year-old Anja Piippo told the newspaper.
She suffered a minor injury to her arm, but her 74-year-old husband Matti was unhurt. They managed to get out of the house and call for help, leaving the elk behind. The elk, bleeding from cuts suffered as it came through the window, broke a stove and a microwave oven in the kitchen before moving into the parlour where it splattered blood on the floor and wallpaper.
Police and firefighters soon arrived and the elk was shot in the living room, Ilta-Sanomat said.
„It looked like a slaughterhouse,“ a policeman said. REUTERS
