BOGOTA - Was she wearing panties or not? That is the question. A Colombian beauty queen has been stripped of her crown after allegedly appearing in an advertisement for underpants — a violation of pageant rules. But Maria Fernanda Lopez, who holds the title of Miss Antioquia Province, said last week she was not wearing a pair of underpants, but a „multifunctional outerwear garment.“ The panty scandal erupted after Lopez appeared in a skin-tight, black garment in an ad, bearing the caption: „A Very Special Sensation.“ The item Lopez wore resembled full-sized women‘s briefs or the trunks worn by cheerleaders under their skirts. Lopez asked pageant officials to investigate the matter, saying there had been a misunderstanding.
But Raimundo Angulo, director of Colombia‘s National Beauty Queen, was adamant, „The rules are the rules. There are certain things we cannot let pass.“
