Though busy with tantalizing elections, Ukraine had time to fit in a serious Russian pork fat scandal—no doubt a diversion from the nastier politics going on. Customs officers in Ukraines Lugansk region detained a Russian woman trying to smuggle nearly two tons of pork fat into the country from Russia in her Fiat. The woman was apprehended on a country byway, evidently attempting to avoid customs checkpoints. The women begged officers to let her go, saying that she had „succumbed to stereotype“ and decided to make money from Ukrainians „insatiable craving“ for pork fat. A court is still deciding the womans fate – and of course, what to do with all that fat, NTVRU.com reported. TOL
