LOS ANGELES - She might have seen it coming: a woman who pleaded no contest to charges of using her boss‘s phones to make $120,000 in calls to a psychic hotline was sentenced to 30 days in jail. Cheryl Burnham, 39, a former secretary for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, was also placed on five years‘ probation and ordered to pay $98,000 restitution. The court was told she made about 2,500 calls on county phone lines to a psychic hot line in the Dominican Republic over a two-year period. Outside of court, prosecutor Rob Dyer said the woman was „a binge caller. Sometimes she would just call, maybe for some quick advice.“ Despite her no contest plea Burnham proclaimed her innocence outside of court, saying the calls were made from 40 different phones and that it would have been impossible for her to have made the calls from so many different offices.
