NEW YORK (Reuters) - A salesman won hands-down, literally, in his attempt on Tuesday to set a Guinness world record. Mark Kenny, 34, walked on his hands down 1,200 steps of Manhattan`s Citicorp building, besting the previous mark for the same distance in the Guinness Book of World Records by over four minutes. "My ears are popping," Kenny said on the 60th floor before setting out to make his mark, which he achieved in 51 minutes and 22 seconds. At the halfway point, he said he told himself "all right I`ve done halfway, I can do it again." Kenny trained for the feat by practicing on his cellar stairs, as well as by sneaking into skyscrapers` fire stairwells. Kenny set his first Guinness world record in 1994 by completing the 50-meter dash on his hands in 16.9 seconds. He added a second record in 1997 when he hand walked down 77 steps in 39.04 seconds, a record he broke on Tuesday by three seconds. During his upright hours Kenny sells athletic equipment, although he said he sometimes demonstrates treadmills by walking on his hands. The event was sponsored not by a hand cream manufacturer but by Castrol to promote a new hand cleaner. Still, Kenny probably has some mean calluses.
