BRUSSELS (Reuters) - A Belgian transsexual and his wife are fighting a government order to divorce because Belgian law does not recognise same-sex marriages. Priscilla Van Sandt, who had been known as Rony before opting for surgery to become a woman, and his wife of 25 years, Jeannine, appeared in the Antwerp Court of Appeals on Wednesday to contest the order. The two women, both wearing gold jewellery and red nail polish, held hands as they appeared before the court. "Whether it`s a divorce, an annulment of marriage or an official change of state, I should make the choice," Priscilla told RTBF television. Saying that she has no intention of divorce, Priscilla added: "And why should I? My partner has supported me during this difficult period. Should I just throw her away saying thank you for the service given? It`s not possible." Jeannine noted that she continues to love her spouse, despite the dramatic change in their lives. "I love this person, whether he`s man or a woman," she said. "That may seem bizare, but that`s how it is."
