MANILA (Reuters) - Philippine officials have seized a shipment of 200 endangered iguanas imported from El Salvador after a tip off from informants, the environment department said on Tuesday. The Green Iguanas, or lizards, were inside a wooden cage when government environmentalists confiscated them at the weekend on their arrival at Manila airport, a department statement said. Informants had told the department that an undocumented cargo of animals was on its way to the Philippines, the statement added. It said the iguanas were believed to have been collected from the jungles of El Salvador. They were confiscated in line with the Philippines‘ campaign against trading of endangered species. A department of environment official said the Philippines was final destination for the lizards but had no firm details on who was importing the animals.
