WELLINGTON (Reuters) - Bungee-jumping pioneer A.J. Hackett aims to smash through his own world height record in Auckland next week by leaping 180 metres from one of the tallest buildings in the southern hemisphere. New Zealander Hackett said he expected the leap from Auckland`s Sky Tower on the evening of October 5 to set a world record for a jump from a fixed structure. Hackett set the current record himself in 1987, with an illegal 110-metre jump off the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Since then he has helped popularise worldwide the bungee concept, in which jumpers use elasticated ropes tied to their ankles, and has built adventure attractions in several countries. The absolute world distance record for a bungee jump is 1,000 metres - from a helicopter. Hackett`s attempt will be televised live at about 0750 GMT on Monday, and relayed over the Internet on its own site, as part of a corporate promotion.
