LONDON (Reuters) - A notebook in which Paul McCartney drafted Beatles lyrics for „Hey Jude“ and „Sergeant Pepper‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band“ is set to fetch 120,000 pounds ($195,900) at an auction next month, auction house Sotheby‘s said. The notebook, which also contains jottings and doodles by fellow Beatles John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, forms the centrepiece of Sotheby‘s traditional rock‘n‘roll memorabilia sale on September 15. The notebook was compiled by the band‘s road manager Mal Evans and is filled with cartoons and sketches including a design for the famous Sergeant Pepper drumskin — featured on the cover of the record — and a list of other requirements for the song, including „piano painted for John“. Stephen Maycock, Sotheby‘s rock ‘n‘ roll specialist, said the notebook provided a unique record of the period of intense Beatles‘ composing activity between 1967-68. „It is the ultimate memento of the group‘s career and documents the integral role that Mal played at the heart of the Beatles organisation,“ he said.
