BRATISLAVA (SITA) Computer vendor Euro Comp, Ltd., in Bratislava, delivered complete documentation regarding the purchases and sales of software to the police. On June 5 this year the economic crime unit of the police raided Euro Comp offices at the company‘s headquarters on the initiative of BSA SR, the Slovak branch of the Business Software Alliance that was reacting to an anonymous notice that illegal copies of programs by Microsoft and other software companies associated in the BSA are installed and used on the company‘s computers. It took more than one month to complete the documentation because some invoices for purchased software products were older than five years and Euro Comp already had discarded them, Silver Luco, Euro Comp economy director, told SITA. Euro Comp thus had to ask its partner companies to send them copies. „Now the documentation is complete, and we can deliver it to the police with a clear conscience.“ The unexpected police action interrupted the company‘s operations for five hours, affecting also its Slovak and foreign subsidiaries. Luco said that the company suffered financial and moral damage. The BSA stated it would demand reimbursement for damages and appropriate satisfaction from Euro Comp if the police confirm the allegation. The raid was the first of a series of BSA-initiated checks this year, the BSA announced after the police action.
