by the Serbian media centre. The village, adjacent to Belacevac, was the scene of two days of fighting between ethnic Albanian insurgents and Serbian forces. The ethnic Albanians took control of Belasevac and adjacent villages last week. The reporters could see heavy mining equipment operating in the coal pit and the conveyor belt that transfers coal from the mine to two nearby generating plants in Obilic was operating. Ade was empty of people but there were signs everywhere of the fighting that had occurred on Monday and Tuesday. The reporters saw an empty trench that had been occupied by ethnic Albanian forces. Houses in the village were damaged but it was clear that Serbian forces had exercised some restraint in their assault since there was none of the heavy damage and destruction that had so often accompanied military operations in the Balkans this decade. Serbian officials told reporters that there were still some members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) occupying Belacevac village next to the mine.
