BRATISLAVA (SITA) Have you heard that 1997 science and education expenses in Slovakia presented a smaller share in the GNP than in Romania? Did you know that 141 bombs have been found or exploded that is twice as much as in 1996 and Bratislava crime rate falling on 100 people is higher than in New York? Have you realized that last year Russia has gained control over Slovakias complete gas industry? Citizens can learn the information in the publication „Slovakia 1997: Report on the State of Society and Trends for 98.“ It is a unique book that monitors Slovakias development in 26 spheres on 700 pages. The Institute for Public Issues (IVO) introduced this publication yesterday at the Primas Palace in Bratislava on the occasion of the first anniversary of IVO establishment. The IVO is an independent civil society with the mission to influence public politics and support the development of open society in Slovakia. It also distributes opinion polls monitoring actual political happenings in Slovakia.
