MALOLOS, Philippines (Reuters) - Former film star Joseph Estrada was sworn in on Tuesday as the Philippines‘ 13th president. Estrada was elected by a wide margin in May. „I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and conscientiously fulfil my duties as President of the Philippines,“ he said in a packed church in Malolos north of the capital. Estrada was sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice Andres Narvasa, who was Estrada‘s lawyer when he launched his political career in the late 1960s. Estrada has called the presidency, which he won due to his huge popularity among the masses, his last and greatest role. He takes over from Fidel Ramos, who is credited with bringing a rare measure of peace and prosperity to what was once one of Asia‘s least promising economies.
