BRATISLAVA (SITA) - The reasons why former Minister of Economy Karol Česnek has not taken over his credentials to the post of Slovak Ambassador to Germany should be known by the end of the week, the spokeswoman for the Slovak Cabinet, Dagmar Beláková, told SITA on Monday. She rejected information that it is an issue of distrust towards Česnek or political reasons such as his reluctance to represent Slovakia abroad. She explained if there had been political reasons, Česnek would have never become a minister either. "Mr. Cesnek would never take such a stand," Beláková emphasized, and she "absolutely exclude[s] such a reason". She is certain Česnek's acts have personal reasons and not political ones. She was reacting to information media disseminated that Cesnek is not willing to represent Slovakia in the present situation. The Foreign Ministry claimed that the Cabinet Office is responsible for the faux pas. The opposition considers Česnek's action as a bad signal not only for the German government, but also for the whole international community. Česnek was supposed to take over his credentials last Wednesday from Slovak Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar.
