ay, Slovak Premier and the movement head Vladimír Mečiar who is the sole candidate for the HZDS top position did not show up. Igor Zvach commissioned to lead HZDS press department, declined to tell journalists where the movement head is. The congress is closed to journalists. Only editors of the state-run Slovak Television are admitted to the negotiation hall for shooting. After the HZDS new program and HZDS bodies` reports are discussed, movement`s top officials will be elected. Five hundred delegates gathered in the congress hall to elect HZDS senior officials and members of its republic bodies. The most important reshuffles are expected regarding movement vice-chairs. After Oľga Keltošová was chosen as head of the Slovak mission to the UN and Arpád Matejka decided not to run for the post, two vice-chair positions remained vacant. Sergej Kozlík and Augustín Marián Húska decided to run for their vice-chair posts again and political observers expect their re-electing. The rumor has it that one of the candidates for the vice-chair position is former head of Trenčín district authority and current head of Slovak Cabinet Office Milan Topli. Ivan Mjartan, the first ever Slovak Ambassador to the Czech Republic, stated he does not intend to run for any top function in the HZDS leadership but he wants to participate in the fall election for the movement. "Slovakia will be one of the world`s most developed countries in 2010. This is our goal for the next 12 year," Mečiar said on Saturday. The HZDS head added that in order to meet this goal several internal processes should become more dynamic. The Slovak Prime Minister also admitted that "our lagging behind other developed countries is significant" and added after the parliamentary elections the movement will have to turn into a party to catch up with political changes. The movement will fight the decisive battle against the opposition in the September parliamentary elections to gain the parliamentary majority, i.e. at least 75 seats in the 150--member parliament. Marián Augustín Húska characterized his movement as still predominating political subject that uncompromisingly pushes for national and state interests of Slovakia. Húska reported on HZDS activities from the HZDS 6th congress in 1996 during the closed doors part of the congress sitting. According to Húska - delivered report the movement used these two years to keep an operating ruling coalition and boost the successes achieved over 1994. As further part of the Saturday afternoon discussion, Sergej Kozlik submitted movement`s 1998--2002 program theses to the delegates. The document confirms that the decisive meaning of the society transformation is, according to the HZDS, is to create and guarantee the conditions for the dignified life of citizens in a free democratic and prosperous society." Such society will see "individual responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit" along with "solidarity of the community and social policy of the state."
