BRATISLAVA (SITA) -- On Wednesday, Slovak M.P.s approved an amendment to the Consumer Protection Law in the second reading, followed by the third reading that also passed it. The deputies approved an amending proposal that sets law's efficiency for July 1. 1998. As proposer of the law, Economy Minister Karol Česnek, said the need to amend valid law was prompted by sustaining shortages in sales of products and providing services on the internal market. The law will also push the Slovak legislation covering this field closer to the EU directions aimed at protection of a consumer. As the authors of the revision say the amendment will put more pressure on selling companies to effectively and flexibly react to consumers' claims. The new law will also shape new conditions suitable for more effective supervision over respecting of the law. The amendment also features a regulation of Slovak Ministry of Economy that provides details about marking material composition of textile products and way of their treatment.
