BRATISLAVA (SITA) -- Slovak Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar responded in the Slovak Television to the European Union's concern released by the chairing Great Britain over the amnesty given to the criminals involved in the cases of the referendum in May 1997 and abduction of Michal Kováč Junior, the SME daily reports. "It is a business of every sovereign country to make decision in jurisdiction," said Prime Minister and added that as far as the international political consequences are mentioned, there exists the EU-Slovak association agreement according to which consultations should be held before taking such a stance and that "they have not taken place." "The European Union has said its opinion, we have said our opinion and by this the whole affair should conclude," Mečiar claimed.
