LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Two New Zealand playwrights sued the makers of the Oscar-nominated movie "The Full Monty" on Monday, alleging the film about out-of-work English steel workers who take up stripping was taken from their play. Stephen Sinclair and Anthony McCarten claim in their suit that the idea of "The Full Monty" came from "Ladies Night," which they wrote in 1987. According to the suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the play was a huge success in New Zealand and was later performed in Britain and other European countries. The writers are seeking unspecified damages from the film's distributer Fox Searchlight Pictures, its parent 20th Century Fox Film Corp., Redwave Films, director Peter Cattaneo and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy. "The Full Monty" cost only $3.5 million to make and has grossed more than $205 million at the box office worldwide. It has received four Oscar nominations -- for best picture, best original screenplay for Beaufoy, best director and best original music or comedy score.
