r Augustín Marián Húska told SITA. He reacted to Slovak National Party Chair Ján Slota who on Monday, repeatedly depicted Mečiar as the most suitable candidate for President of the Slovak Republic. According to Húska, Mečiar`s candidacy would become realistic only after amending the Constitution that would provide more powers to the president. An amendment to the Constitution will be ready in May 1998, he added. The governing coalition has been intensively seeking a constitutional majority also among opposition deputies, "but ripening asks for time," Huska claims. According to him, only the next rounds of presidential elections will urge the opposition and coalition to sit b ehind a round-table an come up with an appropriate candidate. At the same time he confirmed that March is an "optimistic term" for finding someone who would fit to the presidential seat. Huska is certain that there is a trial to shape a second power center with current President Michal Kováč as boss in Slovakia.
