The Higher Education Support Program of the Open Society Institute announces a call for university course development proposals. The competition is intended to encourage the introduction of new, innovative courses both in conted and methodology and the dissemination of new curricula across the region (defined as Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union).

Applicants are invited to design and teach short, advanced courses (final years of undergraduate, postgraduate, maximum one semester) around a selection of important topics from a new perspective. Grants are open to individuals and groups for a period of 10 months including preparation and introductions of the new course. All applicants are strongly recommended to base their courses on their original research in the given field and apply new approaches to delivering the course. The new courses should be taught at the applicants home university while teaching programs designed by a group should be delivered at least at one of the participating universities.

Grants for both individual and group projects will consist of monthly stipends for faculty and an allowance for legitimate additional expenses (to cover e.g. approved travel costs, book purchase, administrative expenses, etc.). Stipends will be fixed in relation to the faculty`s qualifications, experience and degree of involvement in the project. Grants will not cover the costs of study in countries outside the region or equipment costs. Group projects assume trips for meetings during the preparation period and further visits to teach the course.
