DUBLIN (Reuters) - An Irish politician has called for a clampdown on sub-standard Santa Clauses in shops. The Examiner newspaper said member of parliament Michael Moynihan had urged Ireland's Consumers' Association to ban sad Santas in crusty caves and pillow-bellied dupes in "tacky beards and scruffy red suits who can't give a decent Ho, Ho, Ho". Moynihan said such Santas devalued the spirit of Christmas. "It is the quick buck merchants who spoil what should be a wonderful experience for children and something that should be equally uplifting for parents."
