LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Barbie, who is scheduled to get a facelift and less buxom figure, is going brunette for the holidays. Toy maker Mattel Inc. said it would offer a brunette version of the curvy blonde doll for its Happy Holidays Barbie line. While there have been brunette versions of the world's most famous doll in the past, this will be the first -- and last -- time for the Happy Holidays Barbie in its 10-year history. "We think that because it's the last time she's going to be be brunette, she's going to be particularly collectible," a spokeswoman for El Segundo, Calif.-based Mattel said. And Barbie has proved to be a valuable collectors' item. The 1988 Happy Holidays Barbie, which originally sold for $24.99, now sells for as much as $795, Mattel said. Barbie was in the news last month when Mattel announced the doll would have a more youthful face, a smaller chest, thicker waist and narrower hips -- moves that sparked a backlash by Barbie collectors and devotees.
