CANBERRA – Australian royalists are hoping a fairytale romance between a Sydney real estate agent and Denmark‘s Crown Prince Frederik will create the country‘s first true-blue royal after several near misses in the past.
The paparazzi have been hot on the heels of Mary Donaldson, 28, after local media last week reported she was the mystery woman dating the 33-year-old Danish prince. Newspapers said the couple met at a party at the Sydney Olympics a year ago. If the romance leads down the aisle, Donaldson, the daughter of a university mathematician, would be the first royal to come from the former British colony where older generations still idolise Queen Elizabeth, Australia‘s head of state. Donaldson, a law graduate from the southern island state of Tasmania and unknown by Sydney‘s glitzy social set, was refusing to take calls at her office at the boutique real estate agent Belle Property in inner-city Sydney.
She has refused to comment on her relationship with the prince since her cover was blown but has endeared herself to the Australian media by always having a smile for the cameras. Prince Frederik, who is studying at a Danish naval academy, is reported to have visited Donaldson up to six times in the past year and the couple recently spent two weeks together in north Queensland.
