ROUEN, France – A Frenchman lost his legal battle to wear bermuda shorts to work when a court threw out his appeal for unfair dismissal. Cedric Monribot, 29, was fired from his post as a technician at electronic group Sagem in June for flouting rules requiring male staff to wear long trousers.
A court in the northern city of Rouen rejected his appeal to be reinstated on the grounds that the firm had „violated a fundamental freedom of an employee“. An earlier appeal on grounds of sexual discrimination had also been thrown out.
A lawyer for Sagem said after the hearing the court backed its argument that Monribot‘s chosen attire could have a „disruptive“ impact on the workplace. Reuters
