HELSINKI (Reuters) - The Finnish capital Helsinki, concerned to preserve its image as a clean-cut „information age“ society, has banned drinking in public from December 1 and vowed to sweep prostitutes off the streets. Officials said on Friday the city council had voted the measures earlier this week. The move follows a decision last month to create a „pee police“ — a new squad to fight public urinating. Thousands of young Finns descend on Helsinki city centre on Saturdays for a huge street party that invariably turns into an orgy of heavy drinking and love-making in the capital‘s spacious parks.
