in the Turkish Hatay region told Reuters. The explosion took place late on Tuesday night near Turkey‘s Syrian border, in the town of Kirikhan. The car had Bulgarian number plates. The occupants of the car, a BMW, were carrying Bulgarian travel papers, but the official said they could be false. Turkey has been hit by a rash of bomb attacks since the arrest of Kurd rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan last month. An unexploded hand grenade was found in front of a nursery school in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir on Tuesday, local police officials said. Police safely destroyed the grenade. The city of Diyarbakir is at the heart of a 14-year campaign conducted by Ocalan‘s guerrilla Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) for self rule. More than 29,000 people have died in the conflict.
