LONDON (Reuters) - Rachel Hunter, estranged wife of veteran British rock star Rod Stewart, said on Tuesday she was battling to save their eight-year marriage. Hunter, 24 years Stewart‘s junior, said she had seen him every day since they announced their split last week, partly to see their two children, Renee, 4, and Liam, 6. "It is true to say that I have been seeing Rod a lot," she told the Daily Mail newspaper. "We‘re just working things through. I can‘t say what is going to happen but we are both trying our best at the moment," she told the paper, which said she was living just streets away from the 17 million pound ($28 million) Beverly Hills mansion she and the singer used to share. Stewart, who turned 54 over the weekend, told Britain‘s Sunday People newspaper at the weekend: "I still love Rachel very, very much indeed and I hope and pray that she will eventually come back. "There has been no bitter bust-up and no-one else is involved. It is not about something I‘ve done and it‘s not about something she has done." Before Stewart met Hunter, a blonde model from New Zealand, in 1990, he had a well deserved reputation as one of rock‘s hellraisers. The gravel-voiced singer who reached superstar status with a string of hits such as "Sailing", "Maggie May" and "Do Ya Think I‘m Sexy" dated a string of beauties including Scandinavian film star Britt Ekland and model Kelly Emberg. He called one of his most famous albums "Blondes Have More Fun". But for the past eight years the singer, whose personal fortune reputedly runs to $100 million, has insisted Hunter tamed him. "Rachel changed my life. I was so sure she was the woman I was going to spend the rest of my life with," he told the Sunday People. "We are talking about our problems ourselves and we believe we can sort them out. Rachel needs some time and space to find herself and work out what she wants to do with her life and I‘ve reluctantly agreed," he added. "It‘s been very hard for me to deal with."
