BRATISLAVA (SITA) - Peter Šťastný, Slovak ice hockey legend, decided to support the Slovak Democratic Coalition (SDK) in the upcoming parliamentary elections. „I came to play hockey to Slovakia not because I wanted to be paid. On the contrary, I gave this country more money then I earned here, I do it from my conviction,“ he told journalists on Wednesday. Šťastný admitted that in the time when Slovakia gained independence (1993), his political attitude was rather neutral. As a man who is in contact with Slovakia and has followed the development of past four years with a certain distance, he decided to support the SDK and its vision of „how Slovakia should look like.“ According to him, people he knows from the SDK will be able to get Slovakia back to its feet and to a position it deserves. „Our location puts us to the center of the cultural world we should be placed there also economically,“ he added. He admitted, Slovakia as a young state has the right to err but „a little bit bigger order and transparency should rule here.“His goal is to encourage the SDK and explain citizens why they should vote for this party. Šťastný is not happy with what has been happening here over the past four years. „The best politician is the one who is direct, sincere, who can feel the needs of the voters and create better conditions for the society,“ he said.
