MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A tropical storm churning off Mexico‘s Pacific coast threatened to bring flash floods and mud slides to the country‘s mountainous west, U.S. and Mexican meteorologists said. Tropical Storm Celia dumped torrential rains and winds on the states of Guerrero, Jalisco and Colima from its position 330 km southwest of the beach resort town of Puerto Vallarta. Meteorologists estimated the storm would increase in strength. Celia whipped up sustained winds of 75 km and four-meter-high waves. Mexico‘s Pacific storm season has been relatively quiet so far this year, after Hurricane Pauline killed hundreds in October 1997.
