MEXICO CITY (Reuter) - Mexican police said they had confiscated 14,000 turtle eggs and arrested two men attempting to smuggle them to the port city and tourist resort of Acapulco. Police carrying out routine inspections on a highway between Mexico‘s poor southern states of Oaxaca and Guerrero detained the two men, federal prosecutors said in a statement. The Attorney General‘s Office (PGR) said the suspects were transporting the eggs to Acapulco in three containers in a truck. Turtle eggs are considered a delicacy and aphrodisiac by Mexicans. Mexico is home to all but one of the world‘s sea turtle species, some of which are endangered. Both the eggs and the two detainees were in police custody.
