ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan`s top nuclear scientist said on Sunday that Islamabad`s newly tested nuclear weapons were more efficient and reliable than those of arch-foe India and could be delivered by superior missiles. Abdul Qadeer Khan, father of Pakistan`s nuclear bomb, told reporters Islamabad could deploy its nuclear weapons within days if needed and had begun mass production of its medium-range Ghauri missile, which could carry nuclear warheads. He disputed India`s report that it had exploded a thermonuclear device among the five it says were tested earlier this month and said Pakistani scientists and engineers took only a week to prepare for the six nuclear test blasts Islamabad says it conducted on May 28 and 30. Asked how Pakistani devices were superior to those tested by India on May 11 and 13, Khan said: "In efficiency, in reliability and the very fact that we used a very high-tech enriched uranium technology which very few countries in the world have." He added the Indians used plutonium technology which was "very dangerous and cumbersome technology". Pakistan announced on Saturday it had completed its current series of nuclear tests, which it said it was forced to carry out to counter a threat from India. Khan said he could carry out more tests if ordered to do so by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. "If the need arises, if we are Asked if Pakistan was now capable of deploying nuclear weapons, he said: "No doubt about it, one should not be under any illusions." He said it could be done within "not months, not weeks, within days". He said that for the time being it was only the Ghauri that could carry nuclear warheads, though some smaller missiles could also be adjusted for this task. He said India`s medium-range Agni missile had not yet established its efficiency compared to the Ghauri. Khan said technical details about the strength of the nuclear devices exploded by Pakistan were still being worked out and he could not give them at present. Pakistan says it has not yet tested a thermonuclear device as India says it has. Khan said Pakistan could respond "very quickly, very quickly" in the event of a first nuclear strike by India.
