Geologists from the University of Crete‘s Natural History Museum believe the fossil adds to evidence that Crete was once partially or wholly under the sea. At 50 cm (20 inches) long, the fossil is the largest found in the region. Researchers are currently studying it to see how old it is, but are certain it dates back at least three million years.
