BRATISLAVA (SITA) - The amnesty granted by Prime Minister Mečiar in association with some presidential powers taken over by the Cabinet on Tuesday also pertains to kidnappers of Michal Kováč Jr., the son of former Slovak President Michal Kováč, who was abducted to Austria in 1996, as well as criminal offenses associated with the thwarted referendum on NATO entry and direct presidential elections in May 1997. The pertinent amnesty of the Prime Minister was published in the Collection of Laws on Wednesday, which makes it effective.
