BRATISLAVA (SITA) - Writer Ladislav Ballek is presidential candidate of the Party of the Democratic Left (SDL), well informed sources that wish to remain anonymous told SITA. However, SDL spokesman Ľubomír Andrassy did not confirm Ballek's candidacy nor did he rebut it. As Ballek told SITA he cannot confirm his running for presidency until the SDL officially releases the name of its candidate. But he has not got any official offer yet. "If I get it I would have to require time to think things over," Ballek said. SDL Republic Executive Committee agreed on the party's presidential candidate on Saturday but did not announce his name. The date of presidential negotiation with other political parties has not been set yet, Andrassy told. The debate on presidential candidate with the ruling Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) should take place on Tuesday or Thursday. The SDL should also negotiate with the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), Democratic Union (DU) and Social Democratic Party of Slovakia (SDL). Ladislav Ballek was born on April 2, 1941, in Terany, southern Slovakia. He is a writer, the drama in his plots arises from the tension between Slovak and Hungarian elements in the mixed ethnic region in southern Slovakia. Since 1992 he is a deputy to the Slovak Parliament.
