LAUSANNE, Switzerland (Reuters) - Defending champion Anatoly Karpov of Russia defeated challenger Viswanathan Anand of India on Friday and won the FIDE World Chess Championship. Karpov, 46, playing black, defeated Anand, 28, in two tie-breaker games in less than two hours in the games being played in the western Swiss city of Lausanne, witnesses at the championship reported. The Russian wins $1.4 million in prizes.
