Oxford University in conjunction with the Open Society Institute and the British Council invite applications from scholars from selected countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, including Slovakia. Scholars will usually be university teachers or members of research institutes who wish to work in Oxford libraries, or consult Oxford specialists in their subjects. Two separate programs are offered:
(1) One-month visits in one of the Oxford colleges (most places are available in the summer months)
(2) Three-month visits in Nuffield College, Oxford (either 27 Apr - 3 July 1998 or 12 Oct - 18 Dec 1998). This is for social studies scholars only.
In both case the scholarship includes return travel from your home country, free single accommodation, meals, plus small allowances for xeroxing, books and personal expenses
You must have a good knowledge of spoken English (which may be tested). Priority will be given to those completing work for an advanced degree or working on a specific project such as a book or a new course of lectures, and to those who have not had a chance to study in the West before. Those who will have spent two months or more in the West during the period 1 April 1996 to 31 March 1998 are not eligible.
