DUBLIN (Reuters) - Irish Foreign Minister David Andrews said on Thursday allegations that confidential documents had been leaked to the Irish Republican Army (IRA) were "unwarranted, outrageous and unfounded". Lord Molyneaux, former leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, Northern Ireland's main pro-British party, said that at least four files of classified documents had been leaked to the IRA. He said many of the files, containing "very sensitive security information", had originated in the joint Anglo-Irish Secretariat, a Belfast-based liaison body staffed by officials from Dublin and London. But Andrews said Molyneaux' claims were extreme and he utterly refuted them. Andrews said he thought Molyneaux was referring to a document leaked to Dublin's Sunday Independent newspaper last week but not published. The document dealt with political issues and not security matters, he said. The accusations come amid controversy about a series of leaks from Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs that have embarrassed the Irish government in the middle of a presidential election campaign.
